5 and 4 out of what?

Toby is all, “you woke me up for that ?”
Congrats to your son. You should brag.

Dr. Z beat me to the punch. I can’t understand all the new scoring systems these days. Hell, I remember when the LSAT was scored on a 48 point scale!

Holy shit! I'm sure with those scores he can write a pass to basically any college he wants.

Good job, son!

5 out of 100 isn’t very good.....

Yeah well I got a 5 on AP US history and a 4 on AP Calculus, so take that.
Seriously thought, congrats!

Congrats! Just a word of warning though. If there is any chance he wants to do any schooling after undergrad, beware or using AP credits to get out of some freshman courses. A lot of professional schools don’t accept them. My wife had this problem applying to med school.

As someone who received similar scores on those exams (a 3 on calc is passing), please extend my congratulations to him.
And tell Toby he’s a good boy too.
It’s been like 3 years since I took them, though.

That’s awesome! I’m gonna be graduating a semester early due to AP classes in high school.

Congrats to him! Those are seriously impressive scores.
Your dedication and resolute parenting helped a good deal as well.
I actually enjoyed History in HS and have a BA in History, and I still only got a 3 on the AP History exam. Kudos, to your
kiddo.

Hmm I should go look up my students scores.

AP calc test out of 5?
Im lost. When i went to HS, they offered calc and calc 2 for advanced math students.
C alc 2 could count towards college credit.
How is a test scored out of 5? Is 5 a 100%?

Is this a state specific thing?
They didn’t score stateexams out of 5 in NYS. You got a percentage and that percentage reflected w hat you actually got correct.
![]() 07/05/2018 at 14:24 |

Not a state thing at all. It’s a separate exam from school where you can earn college credit based on how you score on an exam.

Weird. Was that around 10 years ago? I received college credit for Calculus and had calc 1 and calc 2 waived, but I didn’t have to take an exam. My situation might have just been a NYS thing.
A ctually, come to think of it, maybe I did take an exam? Never really thought much about it and nYS already has so many exams to begin with. Maybe my calc 2 final exam counted for that, but I can't remember. Oh well

It actually 10 for calc and 11 for APUSH, but the exams have been around for a lot longer.
It sounds like your situation might have just been a NY thing.

It’s very possible I took the exam and I don’t recall taking it. I was pretty aloof during my sr. Year and my school was fond of bundling final exams. The final exam would count towards your school grade and would be the nys standardized exam, for example.

Yeah, it sounds like you just don’t recall taking it. It’s usually given in May, if that helps. Since it’s a national test, it’s given the same day and almost same time everywhere in the US.

I do recall taking a few exams that had to be taken at specific times and that were proctored very specifically, so maybe.
Gl ad that’s all over now.
The exams weren’t all that stressful, but the whole thing always seemed kind of ridiculous to me.

Congrats! Now just make sure he goes to a college that actually accepts those credits. 12 years ago w hen I scored 4s on my AP tests, my Alma Mater currently did not accept any AP scores and I had to take those classes again

Very well done that lad.

Nice job for him! As someone who got a 5 on their AP Calc exam, tell him to not listen to any teachers who suggest “You should still take college-level calc to make sure your skills are still sharp.” The HELL with that. I took 14 0-something calc 1 and 2 and I regret wasting three semesters on it. Yes, three semesters. I f ailed calc II and had to retake it over the summer after a painful spring semester. I was so mentally done that I had fallen into another bad semester come fall and at one point I was depressed enough to attempt suicide.
... All I’m saying is he should make the most of his high AP scor es and skip as many lower-level classes as possible. He’s a bright one.

Good for him, and you should be very very happy. My AP scores pretty much allowed me to graduate college a year early which saved tons of money. Definitely worth the extra stress in HS! Hope he keeps it up.

Yes. That exactly. That’s the POINT of taking an AP class- so you don’t have to take it in college! The only teacher who would say to retake it is one who is unsure of their teaching skills.
